President of the Marine Bio Club, Joseph Peters receives scholarship for high academic achievement

Marine Biology major Joseph Peters is shown at the Kiwanis Club of Little Havana being presented with an academic scholarship by Mr. Ivan Llorente along with the chairman of the Scholarship Program, Manny Gonzalez. The scholarship was given in memory of Kevin Llorente, a professional yacht captain who loved the ocean. Mr. Peters is the President of the FIU Marine Biology Club and was nominated for the scholarship based on his high academic achievement, participation in outreach programs with local high school students, and contributions to research in Dr. Craig Layman's laboratory. Mr. Peters spent last summer working with Dr. Layman and his students on their research examining restoration projects of mangrove habitats in the Bahamas.
