Frequently Asked Questions

Camp hours are from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. Pre-and post-care is available for an additional $25 per week. Pre-care is available from 8:00 am - 9:00 am, and post-care is available from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Drop-off & Pickup: The Biscayne Bay Campus is located at 3000 NE 151st Street, North Miami, FL 33181. Campers should be dropped off on the west side of the AC 2 building by 9:00 am. There will be signs to direct you to the drop-off location where the counselors will be waiting to meet you. If you need additional information call 305-919-6000 or stop by the information booth at the entrance to campus. An approved individual must pick up and drop off the camper; if the camper is not picked up by the indicated time an additional fee will be charged.

What to Bring: The following items should be brought to camp every day: swim suit, towel, lunch, sunscreen, tevas, chacos, water shoes or other shoes that attach to the foot (flip flops are not acceptable), hat, water bottle, and snorkel gear. We will have some masks/snorkel sets available for use, but it is best to bring the child's own to ensure a proper fit.

Lunch: Campers can either bring lunch or pre-order lunch from the cafeteria. Seven different options are available for pre-order: chicken tenders, cheeseburger, grilled chicken sandwich, crispy chicken sandwich, veggie burger or chef special, or turkey and cheese sandwich. These are combo meals that include a fountain drink or bottled water and French fries. Each combo meal is $6.95 and all lunches must be pre-ordered and paid for with registration. The lunch order form is included in the registration forms.

Daily Activities: Most days are scheduled to include 3 hours of marine science activities in FIU's science labs doing dissections, experiments, arts & crafts and other activities, 1 hour for lunch, and 3 hours of water sports including kayaking, snorkeling, and swimming. This schedule is flexible for unpredictable circumstances, such as weather.

All counselors are experienced and trained in first aid and CPR certified. Additionally, for all water sports a certified lifeguard will accompany the campers and counselors. All campers will participate in an informal swim test to gauge their ability and comfort level in the pool and ocean.

Technology: Campers may bring iPods, cameras, cell phones, etc, but we are not responsible for lost or damaged devices. Additionally these items are not to disrupt camp activities.

The camp tuition is as follows:

  • 1 week of camp: $235 per camper
  • 4 weeks of camp: $890 per camper
  • Multiple siblings: $235 per week for the 1st child and $210 for each additional child (per week)
  • Discounts for FIU employees are available. Please contact us to discuss this discount.

Cancellation Policy: In order to provide adequate camp staffing and ensure a fun
and safe camp experience, FIU EcoAcademy has the following
cancellation/change policy:

Cancellation before June 19th: 50% refund of camp tuition.
Cancellation after June 19th: NO refunds of camp tuition.

A $30 processing fee will be charged for all schedule
changes (e.g. changing camp week). Missed days of camp are not refunded or transferable
(e.g. missed Friday and want to come back next week for a
day). No tuition refund will be made in connection with late
cancellation, (after June 19), late arrivals, early
withdrawals, or camp dismissals due to inappropriate
conduct. Tuition will not be reduced or refunded for the
discontinuation of camp attendance due to illness or non-
camp related injuries.

Cancellation presents a “Catch22” situation for all of us. We must hold
registrations in trust so our camp can operate successfully and continue to
do so year after year. We hope no one will need to cancel any part of the
camp experience.

Thank you for your understanding!
