DART organizations bring people together across racial, religious and socioeconomic lines to pursue justice in their communities. DART is now accepting applications for the 2012 DART Organizers Institute, the paid, four-month field school for people interested in launching a career in community organizing.

Clemson University’s Youth Learning Institute is looking to hire recent graduates in the field of Marine Science to work with their Expedition Sewee program in Awendaw, SC this coming Spring. The program combines a unique opportunity to work in varied curriculums and educate children in natural resources and marine biology. Instructors work with students from 2nd to 8th grade, instruct day and night programming, and facilitate team initiatives and games.

On Friday, October 14th the Southeast Environmental Research Center at Florida International University in conjunction with the Miccosukee Tribe announced the recipients of the 2011-12 Cristinia Menendez Fellowship awards. A total of eight awards were given, $7,500 each to students in the Departments of Biological Sciences, Earth & Environment, and Chemistry and Biogeochemistry. In the past few years Florida International University has worked with the Universidad Nacional de Agricultura in Honduras as part of their International and Exchange Programs. Last October, FIU successfully hosted a one week workshop for junior agriscience students. The exchange proved beneficial for both universities and created an opportunity for even further cooperation.

The course focuses on both writing and research skills within the context of the exhilic experience. ENC 4930 counts towards the Certificate in Professional and Public Writing, as well as the Certificate in Exile Studies. The Organization for Tropical Studies is offering an intensive, seven and a half-week Tropical Biology course in Costa Rica. Darrel Elmore's ENC 3363: Writing about the Environment focuses on literary and scientific works, and also incorporates service learning. The course counts towards the Writing Certificate and the SEAS Coastal & Marine Affairs Certificate.
